Englishman Tom Tonks scored an incredible goal from a throw-in in the FA Cup. His club, resident of D5, has also qualified for the rest of the FA Cup against Huddersffield who play two divisions above.
The magic of the Cup happened once again in the FA Cup this Friday evening. The modest Tamworth Football Club, resident of the 5th English division, has indeed succeeded in eliminating Huddersfield, a third division team.
The locals won by the smallest margin, 1-0, with a goal coming… from a throw-in. Just before the break, Tom Tonks probably wanted to play a long throw into the opponent’s box, as he did many times during the match, but his throw ultimately ended up in the back of the opponent’s net.
But then, how could the goal be validated? Because yes, the rules of football are very clear, it is not allowed to score from a direct touch. But in this case, the English player was able to count on the missed intervention of the opposing goalkeeper. The latter, in addition to having incorrectly assessed the trajectory of the ball, deflected it, allowing the match referee to validate the goal.
Tom Tonks also seems to be a specialist in touch-ups. He took part in the exercise several times during the match, causing a dangerous situation in almost every attempt.
