Jenni Hermoso removed from Spanish football team for her testimony against Luis Rubiales

Paradoxically at the top of the world from a sporting point of view, but in turmoil off the field, the Spanish selection remains divided. During a press conference before playing against South Korea (11/29) and (12/03), Montserrat Tomé, Spanish coach, spoke about the unexpected absences of Irene Paredes , Misa Rodriguez and Jenni Hermoso.

A journalist asked her if these absences had a link with behavior that she would not have appreciated off the pitch. The former Barça player remained evasive. “We have been in an exceptional situation for two years, and when we started we were very clear on what we wanted to be as a teamshe said with comments reported by Era Fútbol Femenino. I don’t want to say that these players weren’t up to par, but I’m clear about what I want the team to be and what I like to see, this team spirit, this know-how.”.

Paredes already left at the dock in October

Irene Paredes, Jenni Hermoso and Misa Rodriguez, all 2023 world champions and selection executives, have the common point of having testified in the documentary Netflix dedicated to the Rubiales affair. During the World Cup presentation, the president of the Spanish Federation forcibly kissed Jenni Hermoso.

Already last October, Montserrat Tomé explained that there was “too much noise and clouds around this team for two years”. Irene Paredes had already been left aside during the previous gathering. Also present in the documentary, the double Golden Ball Alexia Putellas was not selected, but probably for sporting reasons this time.
