Jérémy Lauzon: a difficult knockout to watch

Fights within the NHL are certainly much less numerous than in the ’80s and ’90s, but they are still part of folklore. Many want these to be completely stopped for the health and safety of players. Fighting with bare fists on an ice rink seems almost prehistoric to me, don’t you think?

In short, I don’t want to start a debate about fights on an icy surface… No, I rather want to present to you a fight between Jérémy Lauzon and Vasily Podkolzin, which gives you chills because of the Oilers player’s frank punch on Lauzon’s jaw. A knockout that is running rampant on the networks, but this one is incredibly violent.

Here is this sequence in question, which occurred Thursday night, during a 5-1 victory for the Edmonton Oilers over the Nashville Predators:

Lauzon, a very rough player who bickers regularly, was sat down by a 23-year-old young man who is trying to make his mark in the National Hockey League. He advocates physical play and this devastating blow certainly earned him a few points… unfortunately.

Since the start of the season, Lauzon, who plays an average of 18 minutes or less, has not posted any points in ten duels. However, he distributed a colossal total of 54 hits, he who, remember, likes physical play, a style that he developed upon his arrival in the NHL.
