Montreal Canadiens rookie Lane Hutson is turning heads, and the excitement about him is justified by several statistics.
Not only does he have seven points in 11 games, making him the third most productive rookie in the National Hockey League (NHL), but his advanced statistics are even more telling.

A graphic recently published in the social network X demonstrates that the 20-year-old defender is in a class of his own, in his position. In fact, he far and away dominates the number of passes leading to a high-danger chance per 60 minutes. When it comes to passes leading to a scoring chance per 60 minutes, only one player is ahead of him.
Again Thursday, during the 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals, Hutson served Cole Caufield and Joel Armia on a silver platter during a five-on-three power play, but the two named forwards did not failed to take advantage of their luck.
In 13 career NHL games, the 62e overall pick in the 2022 draft had nine points, all assists. Among defensemen aged 20 or younger, only Larry Murphy, Phil Housley and Rob Blake managed to amass more assists than Hutson in their first 13 career outings.
