This week, the Croky Cup made its return. Between the elimination of Charleroi, Dolberg’s hat-trick and the difficult victory of Standard, here is what to remember from these 1/16 finals.
The spectacle was there for these 1/16 finals of the Croky Cup. And if some clubs can continue to dream, others harbor regrets. Here is a summary of what you shouldn’t miss.
You grand Dolberg
Yesterday evening, the RSCA traveled to the Tubize lawn. After a goal scored by Dreyer from the penalty spot in the first period, Kasper Dolberg stood out with a magnificent hat-trick (65th, 66th, 86th), allowing the Mauves to easily win with a score of 0-4.
A hostile banner
If the match between Tubize and Anderlecht was rich in goals, it also attracted attention because of a banner displayed by purple supporters.
The cause? The recent appointment of Olivier Renard as sporting director of the club. This choice arouses controversy, because the former goalkeeper played at… Standard. Additionally, he is also accused of being involved in Operation Clean Hands, a case of alleged fraud and corruption dating from 2018.
To express their anger, some supporters unfurled a banner reading: “Nobility = silver fox. The other is a pest“.
La 600e de Jelle Vossen
This Croky Cup meeting, Jelle Vossen will certainly not forget it. And for good reason: he played his 600th professional match during Zulte Waregem’s victory against Dender.
An evening all the more beautiful as the striker was deprived of this 600th match last Saturday, during the match against Francs Borains, where he remained on the bench throughout the game.
Standard gets scared, Union ensures, Charleroi leaves
How difficult it was for Standard de Liège! Opposed to Lyra-Lierse, the Rouches narrowly won. While the score was 2-2 until the 100th minute, the release came from O’Neill, allowing Liégeois to finally win 3-2. Also note the penalty saved by Epolo in the 110th minute.
For the Union Saint-Gilloise, the task was simpler. The Brussels club faced Eupen and easily won with a score of 3-0. A victory which will not fail to do good, given the difficulties that the club encounters in the championship.
It seemed easy, and yet: Charleroi lost heavily against Patro Eisden Maasmechelen (4-1) and can therefore say goodbye to the competition.
By signing a fourth consecutive defeat, in all competitions, the Zebras are clearly going through a bad period.
The draw for the round of 16 of the Belgian Football Cup was made by Antwerp player Vincent Janssen on Thursday evening at the Bosuil stadium, at the end of the last match of the round of 16.
He offered two posters. Union, the holders of the trophy, will host La Gantoise at Parc Duden and Genk, the championship leader, will host Standard.
Anderlecht will host Westerlo at Lotto Park and Club Bruges will travel to Patro Eisden, one of the two Challenger Pro League clubs still in the running. He bit the dust on Tuesday at Sporting de Charleroi. The other resident of D1B, Zulte Waregem, who eliminated Dender, will travel to Oud Heverlee Louvain.
Kortrijk will host Antwerp. The other Antwerp club, Beerschot, will have the advantage of playing at home against close neighbor Mechelen. Finally, Cercle Bruges will host Sint-Truiden. The matches will be played between December 3 and 5.
