World record for Léon Marchand! The quadruple Olympic champion, 22, shattered the global short course mark in the 200m medley this Friday at the World Cup in Singapore (1’48”88). He was well ahead of the Briton Duncan Scott (1’51”14”) and the Italian Alberto Razzetti (1’52”99), pulverizing the previous time of the American Ryan Lochte (1’49”63 ), which dated from 2012.

In the lead after the butterfly, Léon Marchand had a great backstroke run, thanks to some fantastic runs. He then increased his lead in breaststroke and took off in front crawl. This is his second world record after that in the 400m medley in the long course (4’02”50).

He had already set a European record the day before

On Thursday, he had already made everyone agree on the 100m medley, a European record (49”92), becoming only the second swimmer to go under 50 seconds. A success synonymous with the crown in this event, since the Habs have won the race at each stage of the World Cup.

The man finally gave up the other races in which he was registered at the start (100, 200 and 400 m freestyle) to concentrate on his hat-trick in 4 swims and aim for first place in the general classification.
