Ice hockey: Fribourg-Gottéron holds the victory of hope

The BCF Arena is definitely not suitable for the Ticino teams. This Saturday, a week after winning against Ambri, Fribourg-Gottéron defeated Lugano (4-0) in front of its home crowd. With this success, the fourth in twelve outings this season, the Dragons avoid dropping completely in the National League standings.

Like the day before in Zug, Pat Emond’s troop got off to a great start. More specifically Jacob De la Rose. The Swede got the first big scoring chance in his first appearance on the ice. A few moments later, he opened the scoring to Chris DiDomenico (2nd, 1-0) on a plateau after a powerful outburst.

Fribourg-Gottéron was more dangerous in the first two minutes than in the following 28 minutes. Between the end of the initial period and the start of the next, Lugano created several opportunities which had the weight of the equalizer, in particular by Radim Zohorna (11th) and Stéphane Patry (23rd; 26th). Reto Berra has, each time, made brilliant saves.

Proof of the Bianconeri’s domination, they had already scored 17 shots at mid-match compared to only 5 for their opponent. The sixth shipment was the right one for Fribourg. Sandro Schmid (31st, 2-0) perfectly concluded a collective sequence initiated by Marcus Sörensen.

Not without getting a few scares, the Friborgs held on until the goal of the deliverance scored by Jacob De la Rose (58th, 3-0) in the empty cage. Sando Schmid (59th, 4-0) added to the bill in the same situation.

Gottéron will travel to Porrentruy on Tuesday for the dunces’ duel against HC Ajoie. A golden opportunity to finally launch a positive spiral.
