Logan Mailloux blames himself: “It’s going to keep me from sleeping”

Logan Mailloux had a hard time fully enjoying his first goal in the National Hockey League on Saturday night, after a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Islanders.

Mailloux was especially disappointed that he was unable to beat Semyon Varlamov to keep the Montreal Canadiens alive in the shootout. His backhand shot missed the target, which confirmed the victory for the Islanders.

“It’s good to score, but I should have scored at the end too,” he said with a sigh. It’s frustrating, that’s for sure. It’s definitely going to keep me up at night.”

The poor defender pumped oil in the second period when he battled in front of the net with Anthony Duclair during a sequence where the Islanders controlled the puck for almost four minutes in Canadiens territory.

“Was it really four minutes?,” Mailloux reacted with astonishment. At least we got through it. Yeah, we shouldn’t do that again…”

Mailloux felt he gained confidence as the match progressed. He also threw flowers to goalkeeper Cayden Primeau, who kept his team in the match with good saves during the second and third periods.

“Prime was incredible for us towards the end and throughout the game,” noted Mailloux. He was excellent and gave us a chance to win.”
