This Saturday, October 19, 2024 at noon, a fuel oil leak occurred at the port of Loguivy-de-la-Mer, in Ploubazlanec (Côtes-d’Armor). While delivering to individuals, a tanker had a technical accident, causing 980 liters of fuel oil to spill onto the port. “The private person’s tank did not overflow, the problem would rather come from the pipe of the tanker truck”, indicates Richard Vibert, mayor of the town. “As soon as the supplier saw the leak, he stopped the delivery. »

Via the difference in altitude, the liquid however flowed to the installation of the Loguivy-de-la-Mer fishponds which have been welcoming marine professionals since the end of December 2023 to store their products. Alerted, the City’s technical services made a barrier with sand on site to prevent the fuel oil from dispersing further and ending up in the water of the port. The firefighters also intervened and added an absorbent barrier.

The place will be decontaminated

The City wants to be reassuring: the place will be decontaminated. “People shouldn’t worry. »

Recently, and for another fact, the Costa Rican port had already been the site of fuel oil pollution. In the spring of 2024, an old filleter weighing more than 130 tonnes sank into the infrastructure, with inside its tanks still several hundred liters of fuel oil which had evaporated into the port water. Iridescence then appeared in the area which has since been decontaminated.
