Sidney Crosby became the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,600 points.

The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins achieved this feat of arms in his 1277th career game in the first period of the game against the Buffalo Sabers which is currently underway.

Only four players achieved it faster than him, namely Wayne Gretzky (667 games), Mario Lemieux (812), Marcel Dionne (1164) and Jaromir Jagr (1274).

Since his NHL debut in 2005-2006, the 37-year-old center has amassed 592 goals and 1,008 assists; he now finds himself 41 points behind Joe Sakic and ninth in points.

Crosby had an assist on Bryan Rust’s power play goal. This reduced the gap to 2-1 in the first period after goals from Tage Thompson and Jordan Greenway.

JJ Peterka, however, gave the Sabers a two-goal cushion with his first of the season to lead 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. The 22-year-old German had missed the last two games due to an injury that he suffered during contact on October 5, against the New Jersey Devils. Peterka (28-22 in 82 games) was the Sabres’ second-leading scorer and fourth-leading scorer last season.
