From Wednesday to Sunday, the track cycling world championships will take place in Ballerup, near Copenhagen. Swiss Cycling has selected six female athletes and eight male athletes.

Alex Vogel (here at the Olympics) will spearhead Switzerland at the World Championships in Copenhagen.

If in the disciplines with a online start, the strengths are quite well established, the construction of new teams with a view to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles for the team pursuit is occupying the minds of the coaches.

This is why Jasmin Liechti and Annika Liehner, as well as Luca Bühlmann and Mats Poot, athletes still old enough to participate in the U23 competition, were also selected. The short-term goal is to rank in the top 8 in Denmark for both women and men.

The Swiss rider best suited to don the leader’s costume should be Alex Vogel, who narrowly missed the scratch title during the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow.

For Simon Vitzthum, this Danish event looks like a farewell tour. The 29-year-old from Saint Gall, who will probably participate in the omnium, will retire after the Worlds and will take over management of the Swiss Cycling Race Service in Granges.
