An International Symposium on the “Sports Movement: Equity, Equality, Integrity” opened Friday in Fez, with the aim of promoting the integration of women in and through sport.

Speaking at the opening of this international meeting, the president of the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University of Fez (USMBA), Mustapha Ijaali indicated that this meeting aims to promote best practices in supporting the rights of girls and women , adding that the objective is to also raise awareness of the challenges hindering their integration into sporting communities.

Mr. Ijaali underlined that the symposium, which sees the participation of Moroccan and foreign experts, takes place within the framework of the research activities of the Institute of Sports Sciences (ISS) of Fez and its laboratories and in symbiosis with the axes research strategies of the USMBA which makes research a development lever for the Fez-Meknes region and Morocco.

This scientific meeting is an opportunity to share knowledge and advances between Moroccan and foreign experts and decision-makers in the academic and sporting fields, according to Mr. Ijaali, who adds that students and trainers will also have the opportunity to interact. , three days, with researchers in this field.
This symposium is also about establishing links and forming multi-skill consortia for research and development projects, he said.

For his part, the director of the ISS in Fez, Abdelghani Elachqar recalled that the principle of equality is one of the pillars of human rights and constraints on the path to parity, emphasizing on the great advances made by Morocco in the fields of education, politics, entrepreneurship and sport, in particular.
“We must continue this promising process to achieve the universal goals of fairness, equality and justice,” he added.

This meeting, he said, is an opportunity to deepen the debate and reflection to make sport and physical activity one of the major means of strengthening the place of girls and women in society. society, noting that this is a contribution from the ISS of Fez and its partners to the debate around this issue with a view to developing a new approach to equality and fairness in sport.

In a statement to MAP, the president of IAPESGW, Rosa Diketmueller emphasized the importance of this meeting which is in harmony with the objectives of the International Association for Physical Education and Sport for girls and women, working to strengthen the empowerment of women in the field of sport, adding that the emphasis is placed on the promotion of good practices to encourage women to be more active and strengthen the capacities of trainers in sport.

Ms. Diketmueller noted that this meeting will make it possible to learn about the process of integration of girls and women through sport in Morocco, a country where these categories are strongly engaged in sport and physical activity.

The work of the symposium, which brings together a plethora of international experts and researchers, is structured around several axes, namely “Sports policies and management: towards a spirit of equity, equality and parity for empowerment of girls and women with complete integrity”, “Equitable education and professional training in the sciences of physical education and sports: Perspectives and challenges towards SDG4 and SDG5”, “Equality of women in high-level sports level; doping; violence and gender discrimination in sport” and “Technologies, Physical Activity, Physical Education and Sport: In search of a new universal, accessible and inclusive identity”.

This academic meeting aims in particular to contribute to promoting training in quality physical education and sports, raise awareness of the importance of fairness and equality in sport and promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects. sports.

It is also about evaluating current perceptions and practices in order to promote a more equitable and inclusive sports environment and to encourage dialogue and the exchange of ideas between the different actors in the sports movement.

Organized by the USMBA in partnership with the International Association for Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW), the Global Observatory for Gender Equality and Sport, the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency ( AMAD) and the National Association of Women for Physical Activity and Sport (ANFAPS), this event aims to raise awareness among trainers in sports sciences as well as decision-makers of the importance of physical and sports education for girls, in a context of equality and equity between girls and boys.
