Top 14 – Lyon notes – Stade français: Monty Ioane on all fronts, Léo Barré missed out

This Sunday evening, crushed Stade Français at the end of the sixth day of Top 14. A final victory with a score of 35-3 for the teammates of Baptiste Couilloud, who flew through the debates just like Monty Ioane. Léo Barré completely missed his part.

The tops

The Lyon winger was simply everywhere. In a Lou team that was dominating but sometimes lacking in creativity, the Italian always tried to bring extra numbers and sharp runs. So yes, it brings waste but his activity was so immense that it is difficult to blame him. Author of the first try of the game thanks to a lot of work from Davit Niniashvili (who restarted each of his balls in the back of the field), Ioane is the player who counted the most races with ball in hand this Sunday evening. His activity contrasted with that of the other winger, Ethan Dumortier. The Australian native also finished the game with two crossings and six defenders beaten. Difficult to make more visible.

With Théo William and Mickaël Guillard, Lou has a more than solid second line. Those who are sometimes confused because their style of play is so similar played a big game this Sunday evening. Special mention this time for number 4, who really hurt the Parisian defense thanks to his physical impact. Often sought as the first attacker on blocks close to the rucks, the former Bressan always advanced through contact. On the other hand, he experienced some disciplinary problems, without consequences for Lyon. In defense, William was very solid, distributing a few stoppers and finishing as Lyon’s best tackler (12 tackles), despite his exit in the 53rd minute.

The flops

The Stade Français international full-back had a bit of a nightmare against Lou. Within a largely dominated Parisian team, Barré plunged like all his partners. The number fifteen was particularly in difficulty under Lyon’s high balls, committing two largely avoidable forwards. In defense, we will also note his three missed tackles out of five attempts. As for the attack, it was logically complicated. A match to forget for the one who was replaced in the 53rd minute.

  • JJ Van der Mescht: 3.5/10

Yet renowned for his power, the second line has never weighed on the Lyon defense. Only eight races for him in just under an hour, and none sharp. That’s for the offensive sector. As far as defense goes, it’s not really better. Six tackles attempted, and two missed. Right in the middle of a pink pack which will never have managed to compete with that of Lou, the South African will never have managed to stand out in a positive way.
