Although there is no real recent rivalry between the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, fans look forward to their matchups because they allow them to watch both Connor Bedard and Connor McDavid.

To everyone’s surprise, it was the Illinois representatives who emerged victorious 5 to 2, Saturday evening at Rogers Place. It can also be said that Bedard won “the Connor wars” with three points, including a superb goal. Watch in main video.

Bedard and McDavid have now won a matchup each. On December 12, 2023, in their first meeting, the Oilers captain obtained two assists in a 4 to 1 victory for his team. His young rival was not to be outdone by scoring the only goal for the Hawks.

Bedard already has five points on his record after three games. More experienced and less in the spotlight than at the start of his rookie season, number 98 plays with less pressure.

“It’s a lot calmer this year,” he said after the match on Sportsnet. Plus, I know the guys, I know the league now that I have a season under my belt. I am more relaxed by having less things to think about. I’m doing what I love and it’s great.”

Greater impact

As if he wasn’t already doing enough for the Blackhawks, Bedard wants to dictate the game more. With his first goal of the campaign, he proved that his wrist shot was still just as formidable.

“As you get older, you want to have more of an impact on the game and for me, that’s mostly offensively. I also want to be responsible in my own territory,” he explained.

McDavid, for his part, obtained an assist, his first point in 2024-2025. In addition, the Ontarian shows a differential of -3 and the Oilers lost their first two duels. The signs aren’t very encouraging ahead of Alberta’s battle against the Calgary Flames on Sunday night. This match will be broadcast on TVA Sports starting at 7:30 p.m.

Ahead of the two Connors, however, it was Teuvo Teravainen who stood out the most with four points. The one who returns this season with the Blackhawks proves to be a companion of choice for Bedard.
