Tony Marinaro says he gave up on Cayden Primeau and it’s understandable

Cayden Primeau didn’t look like a National League goalie last night.

You have to give him one thing: his teammates didn’t necessarily help him when they were in the defensive zone.

But it must also be said that Primeau allowed bad goals and that he should have performed better. The Canadian may have scored four goals, but it is difficult to win if the goalkeeper allows six…

Tony Marinaro, after the match, therefore decided to empty his heart.

He told PJ Stock, who was the evening guest on his podcast, that he had seen enough: if it was just him, it would be over with Cayden Primeau.

He has repeatedly said that he gives up with the goalkeeper:

Basically, I found that Tony Marinaro’s comments were premeditated.

It’s only the goalie’s first game of the season, and Primeau has had a more than respectable camp. He earned his spot to start the season because he was solid in practices and in the games he played in preseason.

But I decided to dig a little into his recent departures and there is a striking observation: Cayden Primeau has… Only two victories in his last nine matches if we also take the matches from the last season.

  • Defeat against the Flames on March 16 (5-2)
  • Victory against the Kraken on March 24 (5-1)
  • Victory against the Flyers on March 28 (4-1)
  • Defeat against the Lightning on April 4 (7-4)
  • Defeat against the Leafs on April 6 (4-2), when he came to replace Montembeault in net
  • Defeat against Rangers on April 7 (5-2)
  • Defeat against the Senators on April 13 (5-4)
  • Defeat against the Wings on April 16 (5-4)
  • Defeat against the Bruins on October 10 (6-4)

Not only is he not capable of winning, but he allows a lot of goals in the games he loses.

And that’s a problem. The defense is young and it makes mistakes, which is normal. But in those moments, you need a goalie who can help you win and that hasn’t been the case with Primeau lately.

Perhaps it is too early to be alarmed because we have seen flashes of Primeau in the past. He notably obtained two shutouts during the last campaign.

But on the other hand, the goalkeeper’s performance must improve if the CH really want to be in the mix this season.

This is important, because the NHL is a results league. Let’s also not forget that the management of the Canadian really likes Jakub Dobes…
