François Grenet: “It makes me smile to be labeled Saïd Ennjimi, even though the other two lists contacted me ahead of my candidacy…”

For Aqui Télé, the former Girondins de full-back,
François Grenetcandidate for the presidency of the Ligue , returned to what, according to him, did not work on the two constituents of Said Ennjimi.

“What went wrong?” I can only make the observation today, because I do not belong to the past. The major lesson is that the image of our football is completely damaged, to say the least. It is undermined by these conflicts of personal interest at the time, by resentment… Dialogue no longer exists between the regional body and the departmental bodies of our territory. How, in these conditions, can we help the clubs, support them as best as possible? They endure all this
[…] I didn’t live through that period, and I can hardly speak concretely. What I know is that he was democratically elected by the clubs. But in conflicts like that, it’s never all black and white. Excess is often harmful, and there have been many, I think, at different levels. But I can’t describe why we got to this point in concrete terms. I think, once again and unfortunately, that it is linked to conflicts of people, of interests, of promises not kept by people of the time who had career plans and who, moreover, for some in always have. And there you have it…”.

However, during this campaign, François Grenet deplored some “low blows”, such as the insistence of his “adversaries”, that he was the envoy of Saïd Ennjimi.

“There were some who conveyed that I was in Ennjimi’s schoolbag, or that he was in my schoolbag. The only thing we have in common is that we experienced professional football. But I am me. I’m 49 years old, I have my kids, I did what I did. After professional football, I wanted to break away from the football world, I wanted to be in real life. I trained and was a general insurance agent for 11 years. And I came back to the edge of the field with my son who wanted to play football. And among the bad surprises I had was everything that happened around the grounds. That’s how it is. But it makes me smile to be labeled like that. I will tell you concretely, the two (other) lists contacted me in advance, before I decided to apply personally. That’s it… At that time, it didn’t bother them to have an Ennjimi stamp with them… We’re in politics, purely, so it’s inevitable.
