The Canadian made the announcement in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

“Our thoughts are with all those who knew him and we will forever remember him as one of the great champions in the history of the organization,” the team wrote.

Marshall, nicknamed “Donnie”, established himself permanently with the Canadiens during the 1954-1955 season. Over the course of the campaigns, the Montrealer played 585 games with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, scoring 254 points, including 114 goals.

The forward has also, in his career, worn the uniforms of the New York Rangers, the Buffalo Sabers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In total, he played 1176 games in the National League, collecting 589 points.

Marshall retired after the 1971-72 season. He was, until he passed away, the last member of the Canadiens dynasty from 1956 to 1960, led by Maurice Richard and Jean Béliveau, still alive.
