Thunderclap a few hours before the first game of the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs: the Montreal Canadiens repatriate Swedish defender Gustav Lindstrom by offering him a one-year, two-way contract.

His name was immediately placed on waivers with the aim of selling it to the Rocket in the American League.

Lindstrom, a right-hander, makes up for the loss of David Reinbacher, who was injured against the Ottawa Senators during training camp and will miss five to six months.

At the same time, it complicates the task of Logan Mailloux, who seemed predestined to be recalled as soon as a right-handed defender fell in combat for the Canadians.

This hiring also raises questions about the seriousness of the injury to Jayden Struble, who will not face the Maple Leafs on Wednesday and who left training prematurely on Tuesday.

Lindstrom played 14 games with the Canadiens last season before being claimed off waivers by the Anaheim Ducks. He also participated in the Californian team’s training camp this fall.
