In the absence of Kylian Mbappé, Didier Deschamps appoints a new captain

Deprived of several executives for this October gathering, Didier Deschamps chose a new captain for the team.

This is Aurélien Tchouaméni, Real Madrid midfielder.

The 24-year-old will wear the armband temporarily, while waiting for Kylian Mbappé to return to the selection.

Didier Deschamps has decided. The coach decided to entrust responsibility for the captaincy of the France team, during this October gathering, to Aurélien Tchouaméni, announced the FFF. At the age of 24 and 36 caps, he will become the 132nd captain in the history of the Blues on Thursday against Israel. The Real Madrid midfielder will also show off his new costume by accompanying his coach at a press conference on the eve of the match this Wednesday, October 9 in the afternoon.

This decision is explained in particular by the multiple absences in the selection for the next two League of Nations matches against Israel and Belgium. In addition to the usual captain Kylian Mbappé, spared, and vice-captain Antoine Griezmann – who has chosen to retire internationally -, N’Golo Kanté or even Adrien Rabiot, both likely to wear the armband, are not present with the national team. Hence the need for Aurélien Tchouaméni to take this “momentary responsibility”dixit “DD”.

For now, France (3 points) is in second place in Group 2 of the League of Nations, behind Italy (6 points).
