OC Montauban “has the qualities of its faults”

Four questions for Jean-Michel Cochu, coach of OC .

With a victory, two draws and a defeat, has the start of the season met your expectations?

Overall, I am rather satisfied with this start to the championship. We were in the rhythm of the competition and I think we are even missing two points compared to what we have done since the start of the season. I’m thinking in particular of the first match at Séné, where the content was very interesting, but we lost 1-0 because of the game. That day, we weren’t rewarded as much as we expected. had produced. And I also think of the draw at Liffré (2-2), while we were leading in the 87e. We haven’t stolen anything since the start of the season.

Is your team better than last season?

Our squad hasn’t changed much. The boys no longer had the notion of discovering the level and they knew what to expect. They are continuing what they did compared to the second part of last season. Overall, we will have to be consistent over the entire season, because it will be long. There are twenty-six championship matches. We finished at the end of May and resumed on August 25. There should be no dips to be able to achieve the maintenance objective. The boys are invested and, for the moment, things are going very well. The integration of the new ones went very well.

You are currently the second best defense in the championship. On the other hand, offensively, it’s more complicated…

We have the qualities of our faults. We are the second defense in the championship and that is a sign of solidity. Now, we need to rebalance a little because, in certain matches, we had a lot of chances, but we struggled to convert them. We need to be a little more killer. Now the crux of the matter is the attackers. It’s the striker who will score you between 15 and 20 goals. Unfortunately, this type of player cannot be found under the hoof of a horse…

What lever can you activate?

We’re not going to play against nature and we’re not going to invent a style either. Now we are trying to develop the strong qualities of boys. We know that development must take place on the offensive side. We need to be able to free ourselves and let go. We also need to be a little more spontaneous in what we have to do. I know that the boys are able to respond when needed. If we manage to regulate this small offensive deficit, I think there is a way to achieve our objective.
