Anderlecht players hoped for more from the match at Union but remain positive: “Being first now doesn’t gain you anything”

”The feeling is positive. The second half was a real fight. The Union is capable of making a match difficult but we defended really well. It’s a good result since we know that it’s never a joke to come here.”

Kasper Schmeichel summarizes Anderlecht’s match at Union in a few words. Intensity, combat and a result ultimately which does not suit anyone but which fits the nature of the match. “We just didn’t seize our moments, adds Mats Rits. If we finish our chances, we deserve to win. We had and gave away big chances. When they put in place their power play at the end of the match, we pulled back but defended well. Jan’s injury (Vertonghen, after 30 minutes) had an impact on our game plan because we no longer had a left-hander in the defense and that impacted the game on the restart.”

A Brussels derby which does not suit anyone: the USG and the RSCA part back to back and let Bruges slip away (0-0)

The only positive news for the RSCA is that a 9 out of 9 in the last championship matches ensures them the title. “We still have our fate in our hands. We would have preferred to win and stay in the lead but being first now doesn’t win you anything and doesn’t mean anything. Bruges is in a good rhythm but we remain optimistic. There are three games remaining, two of which are at home. We are still fighting for the title.”

Debast still satisfied after the draw in the Brussels derby: “It’s never easy to come and play at the Union”
