Created on the initiative of Breanna Stewart et Napheesa Collierthe “Unrivaled” 3×3 league will have its first edition in January 2025, in Miami.

The idea is to create a “second season” in the year for WNBA players, as an alternative to the European championships, to allow them to stay full time in the United States. As there will only be 30 players, divided into six teams, in this new league, the founders promise “the highest average salary ($250,000) in the history of women’s professional sports leagues.”

With the support of footballers Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, Steve Nash, Carmelo Anthony, Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma, actor Ashton Kutcher or former presidents of ESPN and Turner, John Skipper and David Levy, the argument has what to convince, and it is now Brittney Griner who joins the adventure.

The three-time Olympic champion (2016, 2021 and 2024) is the 24th player (out of 30) to sign up with the league, after Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, but also Chelsea Gray, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Rhyne Howard, Kahleah Copper, Jackie Young, Angel Reese, Dearica Hamby, Kayla McBride, Marina Mabrey, Satou Sabally, Allisha Gray, Natasha Cloud, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Rickea Jackson, Courtney Vandersloot, Brittney Sykes, Shakira Austin, DiJonai Carrington and Tiffany Hayes.

Paige Bueckers will join the league when she enters the professional world. No Caitlin Clark on the other hand, who prefers to cut out a little basketball before the next WNBA season.
