Léon Marchand: “I don’t really have time for anyone”

Thursday October 3, 2024, on the set of the show Clique, on Canal+, journalist Mouloud Achour asked the swimmer if he had room for someone in his life.
“Not too much… I would say that in the last two years, it’s very complicated. I don’t have time for that”he said before specifying that he had busy days. I don’t have time for hobbies, I don’t have time for anything except Sunday. We even swim on Saturday, we have a three-hour session. On Saturday afternoon we don’t do anything, we are very tired, it’s complicated”he assured.

In complete transparency, Léon Marchand clarified: “I’m doing a computer science program in the US, so it’s a lot of homework, classes every day and everything so I don’t really have time for anyone etc. The time I give, I give it to my parents and my little brotherquite simply”. Passionate about coding, the Olympic champion also revealed that he specialized this year in cyber security and artificial intelligence.

The meticulous schedule Léon Marchand

A few months earlier, for the French Swimming Federation website, the 22-year-old spoke about his daily life with coach Bob Bowman. In the morning, I have training at 6 a.m. I get up at 5:15 a.m. to eat a little before. We usually swim until 7:30 a.m. I specify ‘in general’, because it often overflows. These are sessions focused on power, with 7 km on the clock”he indicated.

Then, Léon Marchand said he would go home to eat and take a short nap before leaving for class at 10:30 a.m. “I finish at 12 p.m. I have my lunch and I continue with the second workout from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This time, it’s a real cardio series with 8km at very high intensity with very tight starts. In two hours of training, we will perhaps have a minute of rest in total. These are very difficult sessions. Then I go home, do my homework and go to bed around 9 p.m. To start again the next day”he added.
