When we thought that Patrik Laine’s season was over (or compromised, at the very least), we wondered what the Canadian was going to do.

After all, GM Kent Hughes got his hands on Laine (and 100% of his contract) to reward his players and to ensure that the club was truly #DanceLeMix for the rest of things.

So the question arises: does the GM want to reward his guys again and ensure that he has a club that can fight for the playoffs, knowing that in the short term, the club is at the same point as before? acquisition of Wool?

If Laine had been finished for the season, one might think yes, Hughes might have been on the phone.

But because there is no rush for the Canadian, who knows that the other teams are waiting for him with a brick and a beacon on the transaction market, replacing Laine (who could return to the corner during the holiday season) does not seem a priority.

At least that’s what we understand when we listen to Pierre LeBrun, who said yesterday that no, Hughes did not pick up his phone to call his counterparts to replace Laine.

This is what we learn in the Radar podcast, co-hosted by Anthony Desaulniers.

We can think that Hughes is not closed to adding talent to his team, obviously. But at the moment, there is no rush for the Canadian, who is not aiming for the Stanley Cup in the short term. Additionally, the market in October is slow for good players, in general.

Note that the informant does not close the door to seeing the CH improve via waiver. However, listening to him, he doesn’t seem convinced that this is the right path. He keeps the door open in case a surprise player becomes available.

This therefore means that it is obviously internally that the available offensive position will be filled. And the way things are shaping up right now, I have no problem with that since going for a mid-lineup player wouldn’t necessarily be productive.

With Patrik Laine and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard injured, here are the healthy forwards still in camp:

  • Nick Suzuki
  • Cole Caufield
  • Juraj Slafkovsky
  • Kirby Dach
  • Alex Newhook
  • Joshua Roy
  • Joel Armia
  • Christian Dvorak
  • Josh Anderson
  • Brendan Gallagher
  • Jake Evans
  • Michael Pezzetta
  • Alex Barré-Boulet
  • Oliver Kapanen
  • Emil Heineman

Logically, the first 11 will play the first match of the season, Pezzetta and Barré-Boulet will break through the roster of 23 players (especially Pezz) and the last two will fight for a place in the sun.

In the short term, that’s the portrait of the club. And the more time passes, the more I think Kapanen will make the club – to start the season, at least.

And note that Marco D’Amico, from the site Responsible Gamingalso reports that the CH is not looking for a quick solution on the market. If he moves, it will be for something big.

But that’s like everyone else: if something important presents itself, a CEO will want to evaluate the possibility.

In burst

– Oh.

– Alex Burrows: an asset to development. [Canadiens]

– The Padres have a meeting with the Dodgers. That promises.

– Well done.
