Are we heading towards a new Lukaku saga? Last summer, the future of the Red Devil was uncertain throughout the transfer window. Initially close to a return to Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku was then quoted at Juventus as part of an exchange with Dusan Vlahovic; negotiations which had made Inter furious, so that finally the two doors closed.
Romelu seemed at an impasse and even close to joining Saudi Arabia when, ultimately, he was loaned to AS Roma where José Mourinho revived him. But now, despite a good season, Roma risks not being able to keep their scorer. If the club misses the Champions League, funds will be insufficient.
Quickly, the rumor sent Lukaku back to Saudi Arabia (read here). It seems clear that a return to Chelsea is out of the question this time, given his latest failure. But an unexpected solution could appear.
Osimhen to Chelsea, Lukaku to Naples?
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea are in the process of investigating the feasibility of a huge transfer: that of Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old Nigerian striker is having another huge season (16 goals in 25 games).
If it is estimated at 110 million on Transfermarkt, Napoli could let him slip to Chelsea for 80 to 90 million euros… on one condition: two players should be included in the deal. And one of them would be, you guessed it: Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker would be Osimhen’s direct replacement. The second Blues player coveted by Naples would be a young talent, who is not named.
What makes this rumor more credible is the fact that the future sporting director of Napoli, in place from this summer transfer window, is Giovanni Manna. Manna is the current sporting director of Juventus, and was therefore behind the interest of Bianconeri for Lukaku last summer. A comparable exchange with Vlahovic was then mentioned.
For Romelu Lukaku, author of 19 goals in 43 games this season with AS Roma, this would be an ideal solution if La Louve did not have the funds to keep him. Everything, rather than enduring a breathtaking saga like that of summer 2023…
