Will or will not make the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Thierry Henry’s French team? The vagueness remains regarding Kylian Mbappé. The captain of Didier Deschamps’ Blues, who plays PSG’s semi-final return against Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, has never hidden his desire to occupy one of the three places authorized for players over 23 alongside hopes. In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Emmanuel Macron made a little confession.
“He wants to do them”
“I found myself on a field with his father last week [lors d’un match du Variétés Club de France, mardi] and I asked him the question. He told me: ” He wants to do them. “I really hope that all European clubs will leave this freedom to their players”, replies the President of the Republic. “I am delighted that all French clubs are doing it and I hope that the others will follow. That’s the Olympic spirit: growing.”
The Olympic football tournament does not correspond to a Fifa date, clubs are not obliged to release their players to let them participate. Kylian Mbappé, who will leave PSG at the end of the season, has not yet announced the name of his future team, even if it seems obvious to everyone that the French striker should join Real Madrid. A club which has already expressed its reluctance to release its players for the Olympic Games.
