“I sent a message to the club to apologize for the bad buzz”, Margot Dumont returns to the controversy with Luis Enrique

Canal+ journalist Margot Dumont found herself at the center of a controversial sequence Tuesday evening during the post-match interview with Luis Enrique, who refused to answer a tactical question at the end of Arsenal-PSG ( 2-0). She returned to this moment in the columns of L’Équipe, with the desire to put an end to the bad buzz.

She found herself, despite herself, at the heart of a lively controversy. Tuesday evening, following PSG’s defeat on Arsenal’s pitch in the Champions League (2-0), Margot Dumont, Canal+ journalist, was rebuffed by Luis Enrique. Asked about his tactics, the Parisian coach responded with great contempt.

“No, I have no intention of explaining my tactics because you wouldn’t understand,” he said dryly. “A lot of things will have to be corrected, but I have no intention of explaining that.” This sequence caused a lot of talk on social networks, sparking a wave of indignation.

The “clumsiness” of Luis Enrique

This Wednesday evening, the main interested party spoke in the columns of the newspaper L’Equipe with the desire to debunk the controversy. While ensuring that she did not see any form of sexism in the Spanish coach’s response (“He would have answered the same thing to a male journalist”; “I do not take these remarks personally but for the entire profession” ), Margot Dumont highlights “the clumsiness” of Luis Enrique. “He’s not a bad guy. I’ve talked to him before or after an interview, I like him.”

According to Margot Dumont, Luis Enrique did not apologize after this sequence. Unlike the Canal+ journalist, who indicates having contacted PSG. “I sent a message to the club this (Wednesday) morning to apologize for the bad buzz around this interview,” she assured L’Equipe. “I know that after a match, there is pressure, all of that is beyond me. I only did my job, I asked questions which were not mean, simply those that everyone world arises at that moment.”

Margot Dumont, however, regrets Luis Enrique’s reaction: “If it’s to ask questions, frankly, there’s no point in being there. (…) I ask him to explain his vision of the game to me, his tactical project, etc. I find it a shame that we offer him the opportunity to talk about it, that he does not take it.”

As reported by RMC Sport, some people from PSG found that the technician had not calibrated his response well, but that he is frustrated with certain positions taken by the French press. The Spanish technician particularly regrets the treatment of Bradley Barcolawho the media would make out to be the best in the world… before destroying him the next day if he misses a match. Luis Enrique himself admits that he does not appreciate the media exercise, to the point of being ready to forgo part of his salary so as not to have to speak to the press.
