Manchester City loves the end of the season and proves it again this year. The Skyblues responded to Arsenal, winner of Bournemouth earlier, by crushing Wolverhampton (5-1) on Saturday afternoon. Erling Haaland, author of a quadruple, guided his teammates in a high-flying performance which highlighted the technical level of Pep Guardiola’s men.
Everything should be decided in the late match against Tottenham on May 14. With such a level of play, it’s hard to imagine the Skyblues dropping a single point against Fulham or West Ham. This title race, like every year now, is well in the hands of the reigning champion and his steamroller mode that we know.
Haaland perfect, Foden on display
One man bears this responsibility, Erling Haaland. In a 2023-2024 exercise that is more “difficult” than usual, the Norwegian took advantage of the spaces in Wolverhampton’s defense to reassure himself. Two penalties certainly (12th, 45th+3), but a superb left-footed strike (54th) and an equally beautiful header (35th) to not let his opponents breathe.

Precious with his back to the game, and today just in the transmissions, this last quality was not so much in demand as City dominated its subject. The constant pressing of the Citizens hurt the Wolves who lost too many balls in front of their area.
And faced with the intelligence of Phil Foden, the decisive passer, it’s difficult not to feel the waves. The young Englishman, recently voted best player of the season by journalists, guided his team’s play in the best possible way through long, remote-controlled crosses.
De Bruyne a little more in the legend of City
More discreet today, but just as fair, Kevin De Bruyne has become the 6th most capped player in the history of the Skyblues with 378 matches. A meeting during which he sometimes let Rodri take his place to help with recovery. A score that Guardiola’s men recited perfectly to take 3 almost obvious points. There are now 9 left to try to win a fourth Premier League in a row.
