The Dragonesses qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Handball Champions League by beating CSM Bucharest this Saturday, May 4 at the Arena (29-23) in the return match of the quarter-final. In the first leg, Messines won 27-24. Metz handball will therefore play the Final four. “It’s the best qualification after last year’s disillusionment with Budapest club FTC“, says with emotion the Metz coach*,* Emmanuel Mayonnade who adds “never worked so hard for a match.”
Last season’s fate averted
The only French club still in the running at this stage of the competition will be the third time that Metz handball plays the semi-final after 2019 and 2022, a season at the end of which he finished third, on the last step of the European podium. Last season, their journey ended painfully in the quarter-finals after a heavy defeat against the Budapest club FTC, 33-26. A dreaded bad nightmare which is therefore forgotten this year. Thanks to their performance this Saturday, the Mosellanes will play the semi-final on June 1st. Until then, they will have to overcome Brest next Wednesday May 8 in the championship.
