The legendary Pete Rose, the man with the most hits (4,256) in the history of major baseball, died Monday at the age of 83.

This is what TMZ and ABC News report about the former color wearer of the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos. Rose reportedly died at his home in Las Vegas on Monday. It was her agent, Ryan Fiterman, who confirmed the news to TMZ.

“Pete Rose’s legacy is simple: quite a hitter,” said analyst Rodger Brulotte in an interview with LCN on Monday evening. The best I’ve ever seen.”

Rose had a prolific but controversial career, being banned for life from major league baseball in 1989 after betting on MLB games. For this reason, he was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

“Major baseball, after so many years, could have forgiven him,” continued Brulotte. Yes, the rules specify that you are banned for life, but at some point you have to be a little more logical.

“He was honored among the 100 greatest players in major league baseball,” he said. […] But major baseball never lifted his suspension, and I found that after a while, there was a bit of a lack of respect towards him.

During his long 24-year career, Rose appeared in 17 All-Star Games, in addition to winning three World Series in 1975, 1976 and 1980. He also won the title of most valuable player for his team in the National in 1973. The former Expos, with whom he played 95 games in 1984, also holds the MLB record for the number of games played (3,562), plate appearances (15,890) and number of at-bats (14,053).

Controversies on and off the pitch

Rose also managed the Reds from 1984 to 1989, posting a 426-388 record. On April 30, 1988, he was suspended for 30 games by the league after an altercation with umpire Dave Pallone during a game between the Reds and the New York Mets. This sanction was the longest ever granted at the time.

Off the field, Rose has also had her share of troubles. In 1990, he was sentenced to five months in prison and fined $50,000 after pleading guilty to two counts of lying on his tax returns, thereby performing 1,000 hours of community service in from Cincinnati area schools after serving his time behind bars.
