The Belgian club Racing Genk announced this Friday the extension of the contract of Zakaria El Ouahdi, 22-year-old Moroccan right back, until 2028.

Recruited in September 2023 from RWDM, another Belgian Pro League club, the young Atlas Lion quickly established himself as a key element within the team, becoming essential in Genk’s system.

A major player in the playoffs for the title, El Ouahdi has accumulated significant playing time this season, with five starts in eight league matches.

“Thanks to his endurance and perseverance, El Ouahdi has become essential at the Cegeka Arena”the club said on its official website.

His meteoric rise has not escaped the international scene. Despite the obvious interest from Benfica, a prestigious Portuguese club, El Ouahdi chose to remain loyal to Genk.

On the international scene, the Moroccan side twirler has already left his mark. African under-23 champion, he also won the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.

He was recently called up for the first time by Walid Regragui for the Moroccan national team, during the first qualifying matches for CAN 2025 against Gabon and Lesotho.
