Despite the license, the Standard faces enormous financial difficulties. Among these, multiple payments that club shareholders did not receive.

Standard is one of the clubs which received the green light from the Licensing Commission on April 24. All the clubs in the Jupiler Pro League have also obtained it.

However, this license obtained by the main club cannot hide the enormous financial problems it faces.

Indeed, according to information from RTBF, the shareholders of the real estate company Standard de Liège have not received their payment scheduled for April 15, 2024, which is equivalent to 3,547,410 euros, including, among others, 698 732 euros for Axel Witsel’s company.

Bruno Venanzi could ask to recover five million euros

According to the same Source, Bruno Venanzi should also receive a similar sum in addition to the second tranche due on April 20. However, 777 Partners did not pay these amounts.

It is likely that Bruno Venanzi will take steps before the court of arbitration and commercial mediation (CEPANI) to recover around 5 million euros.

But RTBF added that 777 Partners disputes the amount to be reimbursed to Bruno Venanzi when buying the club. They believe that certain expenses such as Pirard’s transfer fee and the television rights reimbursed due to the cancellation of the championship due to the coronavirus must be deducted.

They also contest Alexandre Grosjean’s severance pay and costs following a tax audit after Footgate.
