“Free my cats!” Martine Le and her husband have heard this phrase every day for four years now. “Whether it rains or snows”, the neighbor comes to claim her cats from the couple. For good reason, she accuses them of capturing animals… to eat them. Of Vietnamese origin, the couple defends themselves against their racist accusations: “We don’t eat cats or dogs.”
In fact, the 80-year-old neighbor has not lost any cats, “proof” for her that her harassment is working. “When my cat started disappearing four years ago, I put notes in the neighborhood mailboxes. When I put a paper in their mailbox, my cat came back”she tells Progress.
Psychiatric disorders
Despite the return of her pet, the neighbor does not budge. The octogenarian comes day and night to tap on the gate with a cane or put up signs reading “Free my cats”. The Le couple then filed complaints twice and installed surveillance cameras, but nothing helped.
