Referred by Kylian Mbappé, the LFP legal committee will meet this Wednesday morning. The captain of the French team, who had initially sent a formal notice, wants to obtain the payment of unpaid salaries and bonuses by PSG. The referral concerns nearly 55 million euros gross.

This sum would correspond to the last three months of Kylian Mbappé’s salary at PSG and his “ethical bonus”, he who left the capital club at the end of June, at the end of his contract. Part of his signing bonus would also be missing. PSG, which indicated in June that negotiations were underway, is thus exposing itself to sanctions if the accusations are founded.

The conflict in question results from a contract between the two parties that was not signed in August 2023, at the time when Kylian Mbappé was sidelined by PSG. In a letter from his lawyer, the striker had proposed to reduce the amount of several bonuses, allowing the club to save money. But the agreement was therefore not initialed and became null and void in the eyes of the Frenchman.

Possible sanctions for PSG

Kylian Mbappé is therefore claiming in particular a bonus of 30 million gross, known as a loyalty bonus, which he should have received in September 2023. The last third of the signing bonus, amounting to 36.6 million gross, was also not paid in February 2024. His salaries for April and May 2024 had also not arrived on May 31, 2024, when Kylian Mbappé’s lawyer requested payment of the bonuses by letter.

The LFP legal committee can potentially issue a recruitment ban in the event of non-payment. The case will also extend to UEFA, also seized by Kylian Mbappé. The European body has the power to withdraw the Parisian club’s license allowing it to participate in European competitions. Potentially, the two parties could also end up in industrial tribunals or even in criminal court.
