The artist Nahid Rushdi passed away a few hours ago. She had opened her heart to talk about her illness and her sitting at home in television statements before her death. She said that she did not like to announce the illness she was suffering from, because she did not want anyone to gloat over her. She confirmed that the illness revealed to her spiteful and hating people and people who wanted her to “be destroyed and her home ruined,” as she put it.

Nahid Rushdi pointed out that some people were reluctant to let her husband devote himself to caring for her during her illness for two years.

The artistic community and the Egyptian and Arab public were shocked by the shocking news of the death of the great artist, Nahid Rushdi, after a struggle with illness and on her birthday, September 14, as confirmed by the artist, Wafaa Sadek, in her obituary for the deceased on her Facebook account.

The audience called her “Saniya”, the daughter of the teacher Abdul Ghafour Al-Barai, because of their strong connection to the character of Saniya, which she played in the series “I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe” with the late Nour El-Sherif and Abla Kamel.

The late Nahid Rushdi played many roles, as she participated in nearly 200 works. She played the role of the mother of the martyr Ahmed El-Mansi in the series Al-Ekhtiyar in 2020. She participated with big stars in the series Arabesque, Saken Qasady, Hawanem Garden City, The Days Pass, Oasis of Sunset, and other distinguished works.

The most prominent scene in her career remains the joy of Sonia, the daughter of teacher Abdel Ghafour Al-Barai, in the series “I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe.” The great artist, Nahed Rushdi, before her death, spoke about the memories of her artistic career and the most prominent professional stations in her career, specifically by stopping at the series “I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe,” which is considered one of the classics of Egyptian drama. Nahed participated in its starring role with the late star Nour El-Sherif, Abla Kamel, and Mohamed Riad. It was shown in 1996 and its success continues to this day, as Nahed Rushdi played the role of Sonia, the eldest daughter of Hajj Abdel Ghafour Al-Barai, and the late great artist narrated the backstage of the work.

The deceased said, “I felt that I was too old for the role of Saniya, because Abla Kamel and I are close in age, not far away. However, it was said that I was too far away in the scenes, so I worked at first and was not convinced.”

Before her departure, Nahed Rushdi added during her interview on the “Sahibet Al-Saada” program with the media figure, Esaad Younes, broadcast on DMC channel, “I wasn’t convinced at first when I was playing Saniya with braids, but after that I felt that I would regret it if I had to apologize for this role, and we really lived as if we were a real family, not just acting, and we really felt that Abla Kamel was our mother.”

The series “I Will Not Live in My Father’s Robe” stars the late artist Nour El-Sherif, the great artist Abla Kamel, Mohamed Riad, Hanan Turk, Manal Salama, Wafaa Sadek, and Nahid Rushdi. The events revolve around the story of rising from the bottom to the top. Abdel Ghafour El-Barai “Nour El-Sherif” begins his life in the agency of Hajj Ibrahim Sardina “Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra”, one of the major merchants in the date agency. With his hard work and honesty, he is able to win the trust of Hajj Sardina, but at the same time, he arouses the hatred of Morsi “Khalil Morsi”, the foreman, who sought to spoil the relationship between Abdel Ghafour and Mahfouz “Mustafa Metwally”, the only son of Hajj Sardina, who deliberately humiliated and insulted him.

Abdel Ghafour admires Fatima Abla Kamel, the koshary seller, who admires him in return and tries to help him in his difficult journey. Gradually, Abdel Ghafour is able to become independent from Hajj Sardina and manage his own business. He takes Sayed Mukhlis Al-Bahary, Fatima’s only brother, and Fahim Effendi as his assistants. He marries Fatima and has a son, Abdel Wahab “Mohamed Riad,” and four girls: Saniya, Bahira, Nafisa, and Nazira. The funeral of the deceased is scheduled to take place today, Saturday, from Al-Kawakibi Mosque in Agouza in the afternoon.
