For the first time in its history, OL women were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. This setback in Reims is the first hitch for Joe Montemurro in his adventure.
Officially, OL women are still undefeated in this 2024-2025 season. However, the draw against Reims on Sunday, the Lyon players would have done without it. Because, if it could have been without consequence, the 0-0 at the end of the 90 minutes pushed the Fenottes into a penalty shootout. On cloud nine since his arrival between Rhône and Saône last summer, the Australian coach suffered his first shock with this premature elimination. Although he has repeated for a week the importance of the cup, Montemurro was not able to observe the same energy in his players. Was it the cold Reims or the synthetic pitch that led to this non-match? At any rate, Reims once again pushed the Fenottes to their limits, like two seasons ago. With this time, a happier and almost logical outcome. “In 90 minutes, we didn't create much play. Reims invaded all the spaces without us being able to break the deadlock and took us until the end of regulation time then to penalties.”
This elimination is a first stone in the shoes of Joe Montemurro who will quickly have to reboost his players. From Saturday the PSG on the Route des Lyonnaises.
