Despite a disappointing first part of the season under the colors of Olympique de Marseille, center forward Elye Wahi is attracting the interest of two English Premier League clubs for the winter transfer window. The former Lensoisrecruited for a high amount last summer, struggling to impose in the Marseille squad and is even overtaken by his replacement Neal Maupay. With only 3 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions, the young striker has not managed to convince for the moment.
The call of the Premier League
Despite these difficult beginnings, Wahi remains courted across the Channel. According to information from L’Équipe, the Bournemouth and West Ham clubs are in the running to try to secure his services from this winter transfer window. A tempting offer could shake up OMeven though President Pablo Longoria recently said “out of the question of Elye Wahi leaving this winter”. However, the will of the player and the ability of the contenders to reach the price set at 25 million euros minimum will be decisive.
An uncertain future in Marseille
Currently injured, Wahi risks remaining on the bench in the next matches against Rennes and Lille, leaving the starting role to Maupay. This situation highlights the integration difficulties of the young attacker in the Marseille tactical system. His future at OM seems uncertainespecially since the English courtiers could offer him a new challenge and more playing time. The next few weeks therefore promise to be decisive for the future of Elye Wahi.
Financial and sporting aspects
Beyond sporting issues, this potential operation raises financial questions. OM, who paid a significant sum to secure the services of Wahi, will have to consider the advisability of selling him this winter. A transfer would bring welcome liquiditybut would also deprive the team of a promising player to develop. The final decision will depend on multiple factorsboth sporting and economic.
