Members of the Lazio Rome and Lille OSC supporters clubs paid tribute to the founder of the National Front who died on Tuesday January 7.
“Have a good trip Jean-Marie” (“bon voyage Jean-Marie”)… This is the message written on one of the banners made this Wednesday, January 8 by the members of the ultras of the Lazio club in Rome on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the club. Known as belonging to the far-right movement, the ultras laziali are not their first attempt. A few months ago, they were reported for fascist salutes performed in Berlin before a European Cup match. In 2005, Italian striker Paulo Di Canio also came to greet the supporters of this Curva Nord with a fascist salute.
Tribute from the people of Lille
Friday January 10, during the Ligue 1 match between Auxerre and Lille, it was the supporters of the northern club who, in turn, paid tribute to the founder of the FNB who died at the age of 96. According to our colleagues from La Voix du Nord, several members of the Dogues Virage Est (DVE) group chanted the name of the former leader of the French far right.

“Before kick-off, there was a minute of applause to honor the memory of a local personality (Patrick Gendraud, president of the Yonne departmental committee recently deceased). At the end of this applause, between 30 and 40 LOSC supporters chanted the first name Jean-Marie. Their singing lasted about twenty seconds. We were quite cramped, there was quite a bit of crowding in the stand, we were quite stunned to hear that but no one dared to intervene.”explains a Lille supporter in the daily columns.
