Stade Malherbe , owned by French international Kylian Mbappé, has been strengthened with the arrival of a Gabonese international.

In the fight to remain in Ligue 2, SM Caen (16th out of 18 teams) opts for significant changes to its team on the sidelines of the winter transfer window, which opened in officially since January 1, 2025 at midnight.

After changing coaches at the start of the new year, last Sunday, the club mainly owned by the French striker of Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé, since September 9, 2024, announced this Thursday via press release the recruitment of Alex Moucketou-Moussounda. The latter arrives in the form of a loan until the end of the season.

Six months to get back on track

“A few hours after the opening of the transfer window, Stade Malherbe Caen has its first recruit. Playing at Aris Limassol since 2021, the Gabonese central defender is on loan for the next six months. Aged 24, he is coming off a full season with 45 matches under his belt, including 12 Europa League matches. Mainly a substitute in Cyprus since the start of the season, he joined to try to find playing time again. Stade Malherbe Caen welcomes Alex Moussounda.”

During the first training session in Limassol, the native of Libreville actually saw his playing time melt away like snow in the sun, playing the trifle of two small matches for 135 minutes of playing time in total. This did not prevent him from becoming an indisputable starter in the selection Gabonese (19 caps, 1 goal), where he played almost all of the qualifiers for the CAN 2025with the exception of the last match against the Central African Republic (0-1 on November 18). He was then left on the bench, since the Panthers were already qualified for the final phase.
