As the year draws to a close, we bring you a special ASSE wish list for 2025. It is clear that the club is going through a period of transition and is beginning the start of its project with Kilmer Sport Ventures. This step could well be decisive, paving the way for a more promising future. Here are the wishes we hope to see come true in the coming year.
Ensuring maintenance in Ligue 1 for ASSE
In addition to considerations on the style of play and the progression of the players, the main objective of the season remains unequivocal: maintaining Ligue 1. After 16 days, ASSE finds itself in a play-off position with 13 points, at tied with Angers, 15th and first non-relegation, but ahead on goal average. FC Nantes, 14th, is only one unit ahead, suggesting a possibility of exiting the red zone. However, to turn this hope into reality, an ambitious winter transfer window will be crucial. It could allow the team to secure its maintenance in a less stressful way and avoid a tense end to the season.
A thoughtful and efficient transfer window
To hope to achieve its objectives by the end of the season, ASSE will absolutely have to succeed in its winter transfer window. Between the squad's shortcomings and the insufficient performance of certain players, the team must strengthen itself to remain competitive. Strengthening the squad will not only create healthy competition, but also provide a bench that meets the requirements (the limits of the replacements, visible during the match against Toulouse, bear witness to this).
In January 2025, the recruitment unit will be particularly expected to rebalance the team and offer new solutions to the newly appointed Norwegian coach on the bench. Several positions need to be strengthened such as right back, central defender, right winger or even relay midfielder.
Find an attractive ASSE team with Horneland
For too long, watching AS Saint-Étienne no longer provides the pleasure of yesteryear. After the euphoria of promotion to Ligue 1, the return to the elite proved difficult, with performances often falling short of expectations. The arrival of Eirik Horneland at the head of the team, however, raises hopes of a new lease of life. A more attractive game could not only rekindle the enthusiasm of supporters, but also promote the progress of players. This change is essential to lay the foundations of an ambitious project, well beyond a simple maintenance objective for the seasons to come.
Win the derby against OL
The ASSE-OL in April 2025 will be a match extremely anticipated by Saint-Etienne supporters, particularly if we imagine that the Greens have not won against their historic rival, Olympique Lyonnais, since the 2019-2020 season. . Thus, the wish of Saint-Etienne supporters for 2025 would undoubtedly be to see their team triumph in this derby, to rediscover this collective euphoria which has been missing for too long. After two seasons without reception from their best enemies, the Saint-Etienne players will have to triumph in front of a Geoffroy Guichard who will probably be dressed to the nines.
