La Liga posted this Thursday afternoon on YouTube a compilation of Vinicius’ best moments in 2024. A video which quickly became controversial – and was deleted – due to its… miniature, the result of a montage replacing Atlético striker Alexander Sorloth during his celebration against Barça with the Brazilian striker.
The montage of discord. This Thursday afternoon, La Liga published on its Youtube account a compilation of “the best of Vinicius Junoir in 2024”, recently crowned player of the year at The Best ceremony and runner-up in the Ballon d’Or. But now, the Spanish league has put… a montage to illustrate its video, with a miniature representing Vinicius celebrating a goal around three Barcelona players on the ground with, in the distance, Jules Koundé, disappointed, his hands on his knees.
A scene that… never happened. If the photo exists, it was taken during the match between FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid on Saturday when Alexander Sorloth celebrated the winning goal (2-1 for the new championship leaders) that he had just scored. register in the last minute of added time. The Norwegian was thus replaced by Vinicius.
Enough to provoke the anger of fans of both clubs. “La Liga modifies a photo of Sorloth with Barça players on the ground, and replaces him with Vinicius. I think they don’t know that the result at the Bernabéu was 0-4”, was offended by an account dedicated to the club Catalan. “Why is La Liga publishing a photo of Vini with the Barcelona players lying down???? The 0-4 still hurts them,” reacted another fan of the club, also irritated to see this – false – image while the Barcelonans had effectively humiliated the Merengue at home during the last Clasico two months ago.
Atlético’s response with the original photo
Same story with the Colchoneros, who however expressed their discontent differently. In the evening, the club’s official account posted on X (formerly Twitter) the original photo with its Norwegian center forward, accompanying it with just two words: “Alexander Sorloth”. An initiative welcomed by fans in the comments. “Honor”, “My club”, “What a player”, “You are the best”, can we read under the tweet.
Faced with outcry, the video was deleted in the evening. Will it be republished with another thumbnail? La Liga is in any case spoiled for choice: Vinicius, for example, scored a penalty against Barça on April 21, 2024, during the victory (3-2). The controversy could have been avoided…
