As announced a few days ago, Eirik Horneland will be the next coach of AS Saint-Etienne. The Norwegian has reached an agreement with the Saint-Etienne club which could quickly formalize his appointment. Barring any setbacks, the former SK coach Brann will be able to attend the Coupe de matchup against Olympique de on Sunday.

AS Saint-Etienne should soon name its next coach. This Thursday at the start of the evening, L’Equipe and Le Progrès confirm the probable arrival of Eirik Horneland. The Norwegian has reached an agreement with management and is settling the final details of his contract. The promoted player could make the information official on Friday and present his new coach the next day. Of course, the timing will be too short for him to lead the team this weekend.

During the 32nd final of the Coupe de France against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday, Eirik Horneland will have to be content to follow the match in Geoffroy-Guichard’s presidential stand, perhaps alongside his future deputy. Former SK coach Brann, free after his resignation last week, will take former central defender Hassan El Fakiri in his suitcases. The Norwegian of Moroccan origin, who played for AS Monaco (2000-2005) during his playing career, has the advantage of speaking French fluently, unlike Eirik Horneland.

Horneland’s successes

The two men will let Laurent Huard, director of the Greens training center, take over in the interim in the days to come and for this Coupe de France meeting. Supporters will therefore have to wait until next year to discover Olivier Dall’Oglio’s successor and his playing ideas. Until then, the Saint-Etienne public will be delighted to learn that the 49-year-old technician is arriving with a fine reputation, he who was voted best coach in Norway in 2022, when he won the local D2 championship, before finishing in second place in the elite the following two years.
