For his long-awaited return in Ligue 1 this season,AS Saint-Étienne had to strengthen its workforce. With this in mind, the Greens were particularly active on the transfer market last summer, not hesitating to pay the record sum of 23 million euros for their recruits. However, despite these massive investments, summer recruitment so far appears to be a real fiasco.
Data-driven recruitment
In order to best prepare for their big return to the elite of French football, the Saint-Etienne leaders have relied on an innovative approach, relying mainly on the data to guide their recruitment strategy. This method led them to complete nearly ten transfers, including the arrivals of Zuri Davitashvili, Younis Abdelhamid, Pierre Ekwah or even Lucas Stassin. However, it is clear that most of these recruits are struggling to bring the expected added value to the workforce.Olivier Dall'Oglio.
Worrying sporting results
Currently 15th in the rankings Ligue 1with only two points ahead of the first relegation, the FC Nantesl’ASSE is going through a particularly delicate period. The heavy defeat conceded against the Stade Rennais this weekend (5-0) illustrates the difficulties encountered by the Greens, who are struggling to find their feet in the elite. Olivier Dall'Oglio must therefore quickly redress the bar, otherwise his team will experience the terrible disillusionment of an immediate return to Ligue 2 at the end of the season.
An uncertain future
If the two recruits Zuri Davitashvili et Pierre Ekwah seem to meet expectations, the results of the summer transfer window remain very disappointing for the moment in view of the sums invested by theASSE. The next few weeks therefore promise to be crucial for the Saint-Etienne club, which will have to quickly find solutions in order to reverse the trend and give itself the means to remain in the elite.
