A new change in the rules of Football? According to ESPNthe International Football Association Board (IFAB) on Monday validated the expansion of trials of Football Video Support (FVS), an alternative system to VAR allowing coaches to challenge decisions. Concretely, this would offer coaches the possibility of disavowing an arbitration decision twice per match. Initially approved by the board in March 2024, this system has already been tested on two occasions during international competitions, notably during this year's FIFA U20 and U17 Women's World Cups.

«It is early in the trial and the experiences from the FIFA U20 and U17 Women's World Cups will be analyzed carefully but so far we have not noticed anything unexpected», Declared Pierluigi Collina, the president of the FIFA referees committee, to the American channel. Thanks to this new favorable decision from the IFAB, the FVS experiment will therefore be able to be continued and extended to other competitions.
