The end of the match between Montpellier et Lille was marked by unexpected chaotic scenes. After the late equalization ofArnaud Nordin for the MHSC (2-2), a general brawl erupted, caused by a completely useless of Tanguy Coulibaly. The Hérault player simply shot Bruno Genesio, the coach of LOSCafter a fault reported against him. This action triggered a real scene of chaos on the ground.
Génésio's fury and general confusion
Bruno Genesiomad with rage, tried to pursue Coulibaly after his inappropriate gesture. Quickly, all players and benches of both teams got angry, causing a general brawl. At the heart of this melee, Mitchell Bakkerfrom the Lille bench, was one of the main provocateurs. Once calm returns, Coulibaly was logically expelled for his unjustified act, and Bakker also received a red card.
A chaotic and undignified end to the match
After this widespread confusionthe match finally ended after 13 minutes of added timein a totally unworthy of football. This scene which did not really resemble football darkened the end of this meeting of Ligue 1. Lillewho led 2-1 before the Montpellier equalizer, thus lost valuable points in the race for the podium because of these unfortunate incidents.
Future consequences
Beyond the conceded draw (2-2), this heated end of match risk of having disciplinary repercussions for both clubs. The gestures of Coulibaly et Bakkeras well as the general brawlcould be severely sanctioned by the authorities. An investigation will probably be opened to shed light on these shocking events which have tarnished the image of professional football.
