FIFA suspends all matters relating to transfer rules

Continuation of the Lassana Diarra affair. This Tuesday, FIFA announced the suspension of all ongoing cases related to transfer rules, made obsolete by the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union on October 4. The world body thus suspended all its cases before the disciplinary commission which concerned articles 6 and 17 of the “Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTJ)» that European justice had estimated “ likely to hinder free movement » professional players.

Concretely, FIFA therefore abandons any disciplinary measures against players and coaches who have not respected the rules relating to “ financial rights » and “ joint liability » clubs. Players will be able to leave their club without having to suffer sporting sanctions or pay compensation. However, it is also recalled that the suspension of actions before the Disciplinary Commission does not exclude “ further recovery » and does not constitute a “ admission of illegality of such measures “. The next winter transfer window will therefore need to be followed carefully.
