Here are the words of the current president and leading candidate for re-election, on the creation of a Ligue 3 to replace the National Championship. It was in La Montagne that he made this declaration.
“I set the horizon 2026-2027 to transform the National into a professional Ligue 3, managed by the federation, supervised by the federation”
Philippe Diallo: “If the list I lead is elected, from 2025, I will begin the work of creating a professional Ligue 3, which would replace the current National. For what ? First, because, mechanically, this championship is becoming professional. Today there are 18 clubs, 9 of which are already professional. Tomorrow, with the game of ups and downs, we can expect that there will be even more professional clubs. Secondly, because the sporting level and the cities concerned deserve it. These are medium-sized cities, with large population areas, often with interesting economic fabrics, which attract people and which, from a sporting point of view, are of quality. Many criteria can therefore lead to this transformation.
Finally, there is the demand from the clubs themselves, who want it. My concern is also to meet the demand of these clubs. I set the horizon 2026-2027 to transform the National into a professional Ligue 3, managed by the federation, supervised by the federation. The limit I would put is that I want this professional Ligue 3 to be a sustainable economic model. And therefore, it will also be necessary to put in place, at the same time, a certain number of regulatory rules. I am thinking in particular of the evolution of payroll, so that we remain reasonable.”
