Manchester City will strike another blow after extending Pep Guardiola. Its two best players will commit for the very long term.
Manchester City is boiling at a time when a large investigation is targeting the English club for financial irregularities which could cause its relegation. The Premier League title contender has just extended Pep Guardiola for two seasons, sending the Spaniard to the bench at the Etihad Stadium until June 2027. And at the same time, decisive progress has been noted on the extension of contract of the Ballon d'Or Rodri, and the also golden scorer Erling Haaland. According to several accounts very close to the club, including the Real informant Tolmie – who was one of the few to announce that Guardiola was extending for two years, and not one year as expected – these are two new XXL contracts for five additional seasons which were offered to both the Spaniard and the Norwegian. And the two players accepted the broad outlines, for a finalization which is now hoped for before the end of the year.
This would be a huge message sent to other European clubs, because Rodri is still closely followed by Real Madrid, who dreamed of recovering the 2023-2024 Ballon d'Or. As for Haaland, his ability to stack goals is as much a dream for Real as for Barça, who know that they will have to find a successor to Robert Lewandowski in the years to come. A priori, even if one should not swear to anything in the world of football and an extension does not necessarily indicate that the player will stay there for its entire length, the two men have every intention of committing to the very long term with a team that has dominated the Premier League for more than 10 years now.
