OM striker Neal Maupay does not have the reputation of keeping his tongue in his pocket. He has just proven it, again, during a questionnaire on the history of the Marseille club. Truculent.
It is rather rare that professional players, in the vast majority, know precisely the history of the clubs in which they play. Too many transfers, and incessant matches, to take the time, and even step back, to take an interest in the great times of the past. Striker Neal Maupay, however, does not fall into this category and seems (almost) to know the course of Olympique de Marseille, the club in which he has been playing for several weeks.
The one who also went through OGC Nice and ASSE, was questioned about the greatest OM players, the number of titles, the year of birth and so on. And Maupay knows that in Marseille, there are two hidden French championship titles that go badly. Because not officially counted in the list. The one obtained, in 1928-1929, as well as a much more recent one, in 1992-1993, acquired the same season as the Champions League in Munich against AC Milan, but withdrawn from the Marseille club due to the sad VA affair. OM.
“They have been stolen once or twice”
As a result, when Maupay is wrong about the exact number of championship titles, answering 10, and is told that it is 9, he protests, laughing: “No, they have been stolen once or twice. So, we put 11.” So here is OM with a brand new record and 11 French championship titles on the clock.
Merci Maupay!
