Guédiawaye, Nov 20 (APS) – UNICEF and some of its partners launched, Wednesday, in Guédiawaye (west), the “Caravan 2050: let’s listen to the future”, an initiative aimed, according to this specialized agency of the Nations united, to involve children in the implementation of the Senegalese government’s “Senegal 2050” development program.
“For the participation of children in the production [du programme] ‘Vision 2050’, we are happy to officially launch, today, in Pikine and Guédiawaye, on the occasion of International Children’s Rights Day, the ‘Caravan 2050: let’s listen to the future’,” announced the representative of UNICEF in Senegal, Jacques Boyer.
He was speaking at the celebration of International Children’s Rights Day, at the Guédiawaye departmental center for popular education and sports.
UNICEF, the Pikine-Guédiawaye academy inspection and the Senegal Youth Consortium took part in this celebration.
According to Jacques Boyer, the “Caravan 2050: let’s listen to the future” will meet children, in all regions of Senegal, to find out their concerns and share them with the authorities responsible for implementing the country’s development program. , “Senegal 2050”, the launch of which took place on October 14, under the presidency of the Head of State.
“The consultations have already started, with the children of Pikine-Guédiawaye […] The future belongs to those who dare to dream, and children dream big,” he said.
The regions of Kédougou (south-east) and Ziguinchor (south) are the next stages of the “Caravan 2050: let’s listen to the future”, according to Mr. Boyer.
“The ‘Senegal 2050’ program presented […] by the new government offers us a unique opportunity, that of designing a future based on the aspirations of children,” said the UNICEF representative in Senegal.
Jacques Boyer believes that this development program, a new benchmark for Senegalese public policies, “reflects a national ambition for inclusive and sustainable transformation”.
“We [espérons] that it will be nourished with dreams, ideas and aspirations for children,” he added.
“This year, on the occasion of [la Journée internationale des droits de l’enfant]UNICEF calls on governments, the private sector […] and families around the world to listen to children and defend their rights, everywhere,” reads a document from the United Nations specialized agency.
